I am Pooja Sethi.

Hi there! My name is Pooja Sethi. I am currently a student at Humber College, studying Film and Television Production. I specialize in Writing and Cinematography.

My experiences as a Queer South Asian filmmaker have led me to a deeper understanding of the lived experiences of social marginalization. I want to create works that advocate QTBIPOC stories, facilitate social change and empower marginalized communities.

Past Work

The projects Pooja Sethi has taken on in their craft thus far is a representation of what they've observed of the world around them, as an outsider looking in. For their first film, Pooja wrote and directed Shuddh, a film about the Hindu ritual of showering after witnessing a cremation. Pooja used this ritual from their culture to show a protagonist grieving the loss of their father and processing their burden as a caregiver. In the following year, Pooja wrote and directed There’s No Place Like Home, a documentary that celebrated chosen families within the 2SLGBTQ+ community.  Each project is an amalgamation of Pooja’s distinct styles and self-discovery as an emerging filmmaker.

Communication & Leadership Skills

Pooja’s communication style conveys their vision in a way that inspires their peers to bring their best effort forward. This fosters a creative environment that makes people pursue their craft with passion. In their directorial debut for There’s No Place Like Home, they led their crew all the way to Montreal, where they filmed a documentary that earned them a nomination at AltFF for best

short. Pooja’s communication and leadership skills created long-lasting professional relationships with everyone they have closely collaborated with.
